Coaching Philosophies and Ideas

I.   Always give your kids a chance

II.  Deal with the present.

III.  Eliminate an individual when he becomes disruptive

IV.  Know where you are going; know how you will get there.

V.  Have discipline but also be fair about it.

VI.  Work harder than your opponents do.

VII.  Be enthusiastic and have fun.

VIII.  Be a listener and not just a speaker.

IX.  Understand what each player wants out of basketball.

X.  Create honest relationships / show interest in players.

XI.  Be positive, praise and reward achievement.

XII.  Understand every player is a different individual.

XIII.  Have low % of character assassination.

XIV.  Have high % of positive reinforcement.

Additional Coaching Beliefs

Coaching is all about personal relationships. Only way to succeed is build trust.

Way you stimulate, motivate and lead others has a lot to do with your overall success.

Good coaches are usually pleasant. Good coaches are appreciative.

Show an interest in players and their well being.

The great coach is the one who gets things done, the one who points the way, provides the challenges and helps others to achieve.

Kids want to be pushed, disciplined, and motivated. They don't admit it, but they do.
